Image development is essential to ensure ongoing market standing and success. The brand managers and their teams are responsible for the building and upholding of the company’s image for specific products, services, individuals and the company itself. The brand managers can also act as agents for sportsmen & women and celebrities.
Career Path of a Brand Manager
The brand manager often starts out in advertising agency role and develops an in-depth understanding of brand dilution, safeguarding company image, and the drivers to ensure optimal long term success.
It is a career field focussed on image building and communication and as such an understanding of customer psychology is essential. In addition, the brand manager must be able to operate in a fast paced and high pressure environment. Part of the job entails projections and although certainly less glamorous, it is just as important as the glamorous part and the creative side of developing the company’s image.
Relationships
The brand manager works with product developers, advertising agencies, designers, web developers, market researchers and public relations officers to promote and uphold the company’s image.
Soft Skills
Typical soft skills required include that of excellence in communication, the ability to analyse results and to solve problems as well as a creative spirit and visionary thinking style. The brand manager is involved in business and creative aspects and as such should also be a holistic thinker.
